How do you price a MacBook logic board repair without scaring customers off?

Customer has a 2020 M1 Air with liquid damage. Board wash didn't bring it back. Part cost is high and labor is real. How do you frame the quote so they don't immediately walk, but you still don't eat hours on a maybe-fix?

We use a deposit for board-level work — covers parts if they ghost, applies to the job if they proceed. Also offer a trade-in / upgrade path on old Macs so the ticket doesn't dead-end at 'too expensive.'

We quote diagnostic + attempted repair as separate line items, with a cap. If board swap is the path, we give a range and explain data risk upfront. Most people appreciate honesty over a flat 'we'll try' number that balloons.
