PS5 HDMI port repair — tools and tips?
Hey everyone, I'm looking to get some insights on repairing the HDMI ports for PS5 consoles. I've had a few clients come in recently with this issue, and while I've done similar repairs before, I'm not too familiar with the specific challenges that come with PS5s. From what I've gathered, the damage usually involves the port itself or sometimes the surrounding PCB. I'm wondering what tools you all recommend for this kind of repair. Also, any tips on sourcing parts would be super helpful. I usually rely on a couple of online vendors, but I want to make sure I’m getting quality components without breaking the bank. Thanks in advance!

For PS5 HDMI port repairs, I highly recommend investing in a good quality soldering station with a fine tip. You'll need precision for the small connections on the motherboard. I use a Hakko FX888D, which has served me well for years. As for parts, I've had great luck sourcing HDMI ports from iFixit and eBay; just make sure to check seller ratings to avoid cheap knock-offs. Also, don’t forget to have some flux and solder on hand. When you do the repair, be careful with the heat; too much can damage the surrounding components. I usually preheat the area with a hot air station to reduce the risk. After the repair, it’s good practice to test with a multimeter to ensure everything is connected properly. Good luck!
I've done a few of these HDMI port repairs myself. One thing to note is that you might want to invest in a microscope if you don’t already have one. It helps a ton with visibility when you're working on those tiny solder joints. I usually get my parts from a local electronics shop and they can be a bit pricier, but I prefer to inspect them in person. Also, make sure you're using proper anti-static precautions to avoid further damage. I typically run a thorough diagnostics test after the repair just to ensure everything is working as it should. Hope that helps!
